Physiotherapy

Our Physiotherapy team is here to help you to be your best self. Let us facilitate your recovery by helping you relieve pain, recuperate from an injury, improve your quality of life and maintain and healthy, fit body.

We also treat injuries arising from sport, work and motor vehicle accidents and postural problems. We will use a number of techniques to aid in your recovery, including joint mobilisation, dry needling, massage, postural correction, ergonomic advice, taping and home-exercise programs. Not only do we treat the adult population, but adolescents and children too!

Clinical Pilates

At Embody we use ‘Clinical’ or ‘Physiotherapy Pilates’ in our modern Pilates Studio, to treat and rehabilitate from injury, pain and dysfunction. Our Physiotherapy team will provide individualized movement therapy sessions to help you achieve your goals, whether they be rehab or fitness-based.

  • Pilates movement therapy:
    You may choose from either: Private 1:1 or semi-private 1:2/1:3 sessions. Private one-on-one sessions are ideal for clients who are new to movement therapy, or prefer extra guidance and feedback. Our 1:2 and 1:3 sessions are semi-private, meaning the attention and guidance from the physiotherapist will be shared between 2-3 clients. These sessions are still individualised, and allow for personalised feedback.
    Each patient is assessed and treated according to their injury and needs, performing clinical Pilates based exercises specially designed for each individual.

  • Group circuit pilates:
    Small group classes (maximum of 6 clients) with our physiotherapist utilising all machines and equipment in a circuit-type format. A generalised fitness-based class ideal for anyone looking to get fit, toned and more flexible. Ideally not suited for those who have a specific injury or needing an individualized program.

  • Pre-natal pilates:
    Semi-private (1:2 or 1:3) or private (1:1) sessions that are exercise and education based for our expectant mums with our Women’s Health Physiotherapist. Learn about the changes happening to your body, exercise in a safe setting, and prepare your body for labour.Each woman is assessed and treated according to their needs, performing Pilates exercises specially designed for each individual. Suitable for all trimesters of pregnancy.

  • Post-natal pilates:
    Come and join our baby-friendly 1:3 Pilates session with our Women’s Health Physiotherapist. Or if you prefer to exercise without bub, then feel free to join any of our other clinical Pilates sessions. Post-natal Pilates is excellent for getting your body back in shape post-baby, improving pelvic floor muscle strength, working on any aches and pains you may have, as well as getting you ready to return to your normal exercise routine.
    Each woman is assessed and treated according to their needs, performing Pilates exercises specially designed for each individual.

More About Pilates

Pilates is a fantastic form of exercise to rehabilitate and shape your body, but also complements other exercise types and sports. Initially developed by Joseph Pilates during World War 1, this method of exercise has been refined over many years. Pilates uses alignment, concentration, control, breathing and flowing movements to give an overall body workout.

 

What is Aerial Pilates?

Aerial Pilates is all about decompressing and lengthening your spine so that you feel tall, light and over all amazing.

Aerial Pilates is a is a new kind of workout invented by aerial performer Christopher Harrison, a former gymnast and Broadway choreographer. It involves performing a series of exercises inspired by yoga, Pilates, calisthenics and aerial acrobats in a hammock-like apparatus, in order to achieve a total-body workout.

The number one and most instant benefit, is its ability to relieve your stress levels, because it is just so much fun! From sitting in it and swinging, to hanging upside down like a monkey, it brings out your inner child and makes you feel happy! Other important benefits include:

  • Decompression and lengthening of the spine: This can be a powerful way of reducing and even eliminating back and neck pain
  • Increase flexibility of all the muscles and joints of the body
  • Increase upper body, lower body and especially core strength
  • Improves your balance
  • Builds awareness of your body, which in turn helps to reduce injuries
  • Improves your posture.

Some of the unique and exciting benefits are specific to the Xero-Compression Inversions, accomplished using the silk hammock. These are the benefits of inverting in the silk hammock:

At Embody we treat women across their lifespan, from young adulthood, pregnancy, the post-natal period, menopause and beyond.
